An Outstanding Work of Iranian Architecture
Known as the "Bride of Iranian Houses," the historic Tabatabaei House is a must-see tourist destination in Kashan and one of the most priceless examples of traditional Iranian architecture.

Built in the mid-19th century (1214 AH) by the famed Kashani trader Seyed Jafar Tabatabaei, this magnificent structure was designed by Ali Maryam Kashani and housed the Tabatabaei family for more than a century.

It remains one of the best-preserved examples of a typical Iranian living today.

An elegant fusion of purpose and form

Stunning Architecture: This home's design harmoniously combines beauty and utility, drawing inspiration from traditional Iranian architecture. The incorporation of conventional architectural features, such lattice windows, central courtyards, tall porches, windcatchers, and pools, produces a refreshing ambiance amidst Kashan's arid and hot alleys.

Luxurious Decorations: The Tabatabaei House is made more beautiful by delicate stucco work, watercolor paintings, striking mirror work, and vibrant tile work. These decorations, which draw inspiration from Iranian art and nature, represent the grace and skill of Iranian artists and architects.

Intelligent Systems: Iranian architects have a high degree of expertise in adjusting their designs to the local environment, as evidenced by their use of natural ventilation systems like windcatchers and pools, which provide shade in the summer and natural heating in the winter.

Vast Space: This 4700 square meter home has multiple rooms, including the inner and outer portions, courtyard, garden, stables, and basement. Each room has a distinct purpose and reflects the aristocratic way of life of the time.

Within the walls of the historic Tabatabaei House lies a fascinating tale, making it a symbol of infinite love and a masterpiece of Iranian architecture.

Seyed Jafar Tabatabaei Natanzi, a well-known carpet merchant from Natanz who lived in Kashan, built this exquisite structure as a tribute to his wife, "Homa."

This exceptional piece of art was inspired by Seyed Jafar's intense love for his wife.
This affection is demonstrated by the multiple representations of the "Homa" bird that can be seen on the walls and in the house's decorations.

At Homa's request, this lovely bird—a sign of love and good fortune in Iranian culture—was included around the house. In other words, this mansion is a tale of unending love told from every angle.

A brilliant gem in the crown of traditional Iranian architecture is the old Tabatabaei House. This magnificent structure, which has 40 rooms spread across almost 5000 square meters and four distinct courtyards, is a representation of the complexity and elegance of Iranian architecture.

The Bironi (public area) and the Andaroni (private women's quarters) are the two separate sections of the house, each having its own special qualities.
This house's clever ventilation system is one of its most remarkable characteristics.

During the sweltering summer months, three tall windcatchers provide cool, fresh air into the home, making it a comfortable place for the occupants. To further enhance the beauty and freshness of the area, two historic qanats (underground water channels) supply crystal-clear, invigorating water to the lovely ponds and fountains of the courtyards.

With its beautifully carved wooden doors and windows and beautiful stucco decorations, the house's exterior is absolutely appealing. The house's inside is delightfully decorated with lovely paintings and windows with colorful mosaic tiles. Interestingly, the house's décor typically features the legendary Homa bird, a sign of good fortune and love. This illustrates how devoted and deeply in love Seyed Jafar Tabatabaei was with his wife Homa.
